This is a period of gradually returning sanity and balance of judgment in the automotive world. Even the impregnable bastion of Detroit has finally been pierced by the realization that these foreign cars are not merely the playthings of a gang of faddists but are an expression of the fundamental need for a useful rather than ornamental car. Vehicles from overseas are being criticized in new circles simply for being foreign, but more sophisticated automotive critics seldom praise solely on that basis.
